The past few months have been an uncertain time – and not only for the marine industry. With so much changing so quickly, there are many things to balance.

“Concern for the health and well-being of employees and their families comes first for every company, including our ours,” says Viktor Friberg, Head of Global Sales, Alfa Laval PureBallast. “Nonetheless, we all have to do our best to keep things moving. Ballast water treatment systems are still being selected and prepared for installation, because the rules themselves haven’t changed.”

Those rules include the IMO revised G8 guidelines for type approving ballast water treatment systems, which take effect in just six short months. After 28 October, systems without revised G8 type approval can no longer be installed for global use.
